Through training, discipline, and mentoring, the New Mexico National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Academy provides the education, leadership, character development and life coping skills to New Mexico's youth. Discover why NMYCA is one of New Mexico's Premier Leadership Programs.
The Challenge is great for those who are:
- Between 15 ½ and 18 years of age. Must be 16 before the end of the residential phase and cannot turn 19 before the start of the cycle.
- A citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States
- Behind in school or struggling to progress in a traditional high school setting
- Want to be a Leader
- Want a different High School Experience
- Willing to be drug free
- Interested in the Military
- Mentally and physically capable of participating in our quasi-military environment
- No felony charges/convictions/indictments
- Voluntarily applying for enrollment
Why NMYCA?
Education
Complete high school in just 22 weeks, earning a HiSET (GED alternative) or recover high school credits and return on track to graduate with your friends. Be enrolled in college vocational classes like Wildland Firefighting, Fire Science, Emergency Medical Response, Welding, and Automotive—no tuition fees.
Physical Fitness
Cadets improve physical fitness through participation in military styled physical training, running, and organized sports designed to encourage a lifelong commitment to physical wellbeing.
Second Chance
NMYCA is a second chance; it's the catalyst for change. It's the place where your future gains momentum, where alternative learning transforms into opportunity. NMYCA is not about labels; it's about resilience, reward, and the challenge of personal growth. Remember, it's called ChalleNGe for a reason—because it's not easy, but the journey is worth every step.
